Key details
Dr Marianne Markowski
Research Fellow
In Dec 2020 Marianne Markowski joined the Institute for Lifecourse Development at the University of Greenwich, where she directly supports as Research Fellow the Centre for Professional Workforce Development and the Centre for Physical Activities and Rehabilitation. She is further associated with the School of Health Sciences and supports research, teaching and supervision in a number of courses.
In 2016 Marianne completed 7 years of practice-based PhD research, which involved designing online social interaction for and with older people at Middlesex University. For this, she built her research tool the Teletalker, which was a simple to use online video presence device and with which she carried out design research interventions. Her PhD research was preceded by an MA in Design for Interactive Media in 1999. Between her masters and PhD research Marianne has worked as Accessibility and Usability Consultant, as well as a User Experience Design Consultant for over 10 years in various industry sectors including Retail, Telecoms, Government, Banking and Charities.
She is a co-founder of the Affective Experiences Network, which specialises in media art, design and research. This project was originally an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded project for the development of new research skills, led by a consortia of 4 universities in London.
Marianne is passionate about inter- and transdisciplinary research and is therefore well-placed in the Institute for Lifecourse Development, which carries out a variety of research and knowledge exchange projects between its 7 centres and with partnering organisations or faculties. Her research interests can be described with the following 5 keywords: Healthcare workforce, Co-Design, Technology, Intergenerational Engagement, Education.
