How would you summarise your placement role?
My role was based at Business School Employability Office, University of Greenwich and I managed the Passport scheme for Business Faculty. The role involved promoting the Passport Scheme across the Greenwich campus which included organising workshops, networking event, drop-in sessions and awarding rewards to the students. One of the important part of this role was supporting students with submissions and tutors with marking and overall GEP (Greenwich Employability Passport) support.
What has been your biggest achievement or source of pride of your placement so far?
One of the achievements is the opportunities this role brought along majorly including partnerships and working with external stakeholders.
I worked on KPMG BAME project along with KPMG executives where we focused on training the less privileged students to help become employable and conducted training sessions to make them job ready. This experience improved my planning, organising and managerial skills and gave me the opportunity to work with industry professionals.
I planned and initiated visits to KPMGs corporate office at Canary Wharf and organised KPMG led workshops on campus making this project a huge success. I lead the whole project and managed multiple tasks such as booking rooms and catering, health and safety checks, organising corporate visit and liaising with KPMG executives.
This project was a great success leading to high level of student satisfaction and thus KPMG is looking forward to organise such projects again in future.
What would you tell to other students who are not sure about doing a placement?
I am almost in my final month of employment and I would say doing an internship made me learn a lot of skills on the professional front. These skills are significantly important to stand out in the highly competitive job market. There were some stressful times when I had to achieve deadlines which lead to sleepless nights but all that experience was worth the benefits it brought along.
I became more confident, my communication skills improved, built a lot of connections, developed my managerial and leadership skills and I became very good with negotiations.
I would say all the things you learn and the experience you gain, makes you wise and always helps you excel in your career.
Do you have any plans for the future?
I enjoyed my employment and loved the working culture of a higher educational environment, thus I was lucky enough to secure a role at other Faculty within the University of Greenwich. I am efficiently planning to learn from the trainings which University provides for my personal and professional development.
I am looking forward to utilise my learning and experience in order to excel at my new role.
